Everest Base Camp
via Gokyo Lakes 2012 - with Sir Chris Bonington & Pertemba Sherpa
Join us on this amazing trek. As we get to see the best of the Gokyo and Khumbu valleys, we walk with guests Chris Bonington and Pertemba Sherpa and get a truly rich cultural experience as we visit Pertemba’s 300 year old family home in Khumjung, now converted into the Sherpa Heritage Museum. We share the experiences and memories of Sir Chris Bonington and Pertemba Sherpa, who was Sirdar on his South West Face Expedition in 1975, reaching the summit with Peter Boardman making the second ascent of the South West Face and then in 1985 joining him in his ascent of the highest point on Earth.

We don’t sell millions of trips all over the world, we sell a small exclusive number of trips into places that we have a history with and have an affinity to.
Bonington Treks was founded by Joe Bonington. Joe has grown up with adventure in his blood. Joe’s father is Sir Chris Bonington CBE, a living mountaineering legend and one of the world’s most successful expedition leaders. So from cradle onwards Joe has heard of tales of adventure and of far off lands. Helping his Dad on lecture tours and preparing for expeditions as a child gave Joe a taste for exotic countries and wild locations.
Our treks take a little longer because we treat you as if you were in an expedition, allowing more time for acclimatisation. Unlike some other trekking companies we want to maximise your chance of reaching your end destination.
We allow opportunities to immerse the trekking team in the unique culture of the region, visiting monasteries, temples and points of cultural heritage.
Our support crew
Our ground crew in Nepal are second to none. Our contacts in Nepal go back along way. Bikrum Pandey, our agent in Kathmandu, has been organising professional expeditions for over 20 years as well as organising for the world’s major trekking companies and charities. One of our Sirdars, Ram, was a porter on Chris’s famous 1975 South West Face expedition. He is now one of the countries most sought after and experienced trekking sirdars.
The trek to Everest Base Camp was fantastic! Thanks to Joe and the team at Bonington Treks for your leadership, experience and professionalism. You made my experience of the Himalayas absolutely incredible!
A Bonington Trek is not just a trek, it’s a story as well as a journey, it is history as well as adventure, it is culture as well as beautiful scenery.
You are going on an adventure of a lifetime; we at Bonington Treks want to ensure that you receive an amazing, successful and colourful adventure.
